Lion's Mouth Tunnel (Sinha Kata)

Sinha Kata is a rock hanging between Kadugannawa and Balana railway stations on the Colombo-Kandy railway line at a bend about 1Km from Kadugannawa towards Balana. This is called a lion because it looks like the open mouth of a lion. It is reported that this was built by the British between 1860 and 1890 during the construction of the Kandyan Railway. Areas such as Batalegala,

Devanagala, Balumgala, Utuwankanda, Pahala Kadugannawa, Higula and Mawanella are also visible below. The Colombo-Kandy main road also runs below this hill. This lion can also be observed from below at the bend of the Kadugannawa rock formation on the Colombo-Kandy main road. The Lion is a must-visit place for anyone who wants to experience the environment. It is also possible to walk [4 KM] along the railway line from Kadugannawa towards Balana to see many such places.
